I’m writing from Europe, where I’ve been traveling and teaching all summer. It’s been a beautiful season of feeling inspired by conversations with people who are bringing to life visions of a world of justice and balance. You can hear some of those here in my podcast, The Movement We Need.
I look forward to being home in California soon, to welcome the fresh, crisp air of autumn at my ranch. As we move towards the Equinox, the Earth helps us find balance, both in ourselves and in the days and nights we share.
This fall, I will be teaching permaculture online once again. I describe permaculture as a system of ecological design that guides us in how to provide for our needs while regenerating the natural environment around us. I will be offering a full Permaculture Design Certificate course, as well as an introductory session, and a module on Food Forests and Forest Ecology, all taught with my longtime co-teacher, Charles Williams.
Our Autumn Equinox ritual will be held on September 19th, honoring the ethic of sharing the harvest. We’ll also be celebrating Charles’ 50th birthday that day! Please join us, by donation, in support of Diversity Scholarships for Earth Activist Training.
I will also be teaching a course in social permaculture, an emerging discipline which applies the principles of permaculture to human relationships and interactions. My Empowering Collaborative Groupscourse is perfect for those of you who live, work, or create collectively, as I do, and want to evolve group dynamics and design supportive, nurturing relationships.
In October, I’ll be offering the next session of Stories for Transformation, an online intensive open to all, on a pay-what-you-can basis. In this moment of turmoil and so much suffering in the world, stories and ritual can help us through hard times and give us a template for turning rage into action, grief to compassion. This time our focus will be Grief, Rage and Restitution: The Myth of Demeter and Persephone. In ancient Greece, the Greater Mysteries of Demeter were celebrated not in the spring, but in the autumn, when the rains returned and the desiccated land turned green again.
I hope to see you this fall!
Love,
